About Genomic Vault

Genomic Vault is a premium storage and access system for genomes, created by Switzerland Omics. It preserves raw genome files and related data, keeping them private by default, and makes controlled sharing practical for individuals and clinics.

What it does

Genomic Vault provides long-term custody of each genome. Sharing is possible only on request, limited to defined data types, and every action is logged to create a full audit trail. Data is preserved in formats used in precision medicine and bioinformatics, so that it is immediately useful when required.

How it works

Customers manage access through the account portal, often naming a clinician as recipient. Each request specifies both genome and data type, for example QV_SO_sf for recommended ACMG screening or FULL_GENOME for complete files. Requests are reviewed and fulfilled by administrators, with details of type, recipient, and delivery recorded at every step.

Security and accountability

Every request is tied directly to a genome and user account. All shares are explicitly recorded, preventing untracked access and supporting clinical governance. The system is built on more than a decade of expertise in international and national-scale genomics programmes in Switzerland. Handling genomic data demands both mature technology and professional integrity, from file formats and algorithms through to security and governance.

Why it exists

The technical foundation for secure genome storage is mature, but no consumer-level product has been made accessible without exploiting secondary data uses. Large providers rely on either analysis in niche areas or commercialisation of population data to sustain such services. Switzerland Omics was founded on a different principle. We build algorithms for genomic analysis providers as one line of work, and we built Genomic Vault as a parallel infrastructure for storage and access. The two remain separate.

This independence allows us to provide a premium service where privacy is preserved by default, and where value does not depend on selling or reusing your genome. It exists so that individuals and clinics can safeguard genomic data responsibly today, without compromise.

Why not just sequence on demand?

Sequencing can always be repeated, but without consistent custody the results fragment across providers and time. Each service uses its own methods, pipelines, and reporting standards. That creates variation, missing audit trails, and results that are difficult to reconcile or reuse.

In practice, individuals and clinicians face dispersed data, repeated consent processes, and little control over what has been tested and what has not. Genomic Vault prevents this by providing a stable, expert-managed record.

Once your genome is sequenced, it is preserved in formats standardised for precision medicine. Access is consistent, accountable, and available on demand, whether for a targeted query or complete file. Instead of re-entering a new system each time, you retain one clear path to your data, with full tracking of every request and share.

Price and philosophy

Genomic Vault is a premium service. The price reflects the minimal expense required for long-term custodianship, expert management, and a consistent system that one-off sequencing cannot provide.

We minimise costs and allow no waste by philosophy, so the price is fair although premium. Just as a tailor creates garments that fit with precision and endure, we provide genomic custody that is accountable, stable, and fit for use.

Over time, faster and lower-cost options may emerge, and we will support them. For now, a premium standard is necessary to set the model that others can follow. Our goal is to provide a much needed service to the genomic community, not profit.

Position in the field

Genomic Vault complements rather than replaces existing laboratories, clinics, and analysis providers. Just as our technical tools serve as parallel infrastructure for industry, Vault provides parallel infrastructure for secure storage. Pharmaceutical and government initiatives pursue population-scale goals. Genomic Vault protects the individual first, making a mature but previously unavailable approach accessible to those setting the standard for responsible genomics.

National programmes and collaboration

We support national genomics programmes that advance public health and clinical care. Our aim is to contribute infrastructure and expertise so that the same premium standard of secure storage and controlled access becomes broadly available. We collaborate with public initiatives and industry where it improves outcomes, while keeping storage independent from analysis and free from secondary data monetisation.

Genomic Vault demonstrates what responsible consumer-level custody can look like in practice. As national strategies mature, we intend to help scale these standards so that individuals, clinics, and public systems can rely on the same accountable approach.
